How To Use Minerals

TAP your Painted Laydies Mineral Makeup jar on a hard surface like a counter or table top to settle the minerals. IN the large jars you will see the sifter after doing this. In the small jars, it helps to settle the powder so it doesn’t fall out the sides.

Our Color cosmetics come in two formulas and are marked with their use. They are highly concentrated so just a speck can be very strong in color and coverage. Less is more in our case!

"ALL" Colors: safe for use all over. Eyes, lips, face, body

"NO LIP “ colors, safe for use anywhere but lips

 Foundation:
Kabuki Brush:  Tap a small amount. (About ¼ to ½ the size of a dime) into a lid or any flat surface big enough for your brush. Then swirl your brush into the powder. Tap on the edge of the lid to settle the minerals into the brush and release any excess. (Make sure you are tapping over the jar so you don’t waste any) The less you see on the brush, the smoother and less heavy the application will be.  Then, beginning at the outside of your face and working toward the middle, work the brush in a circular pattern and buff the minerals into your skin. It is best to do several light coats as opposed to one thick coat. Apply as many coats as you need (one or two should be sufficient).

Flocked sponge: use by dipping the sponge into the powder lightly then swipe over and across the face. Blend. Again, more lighter coats rather than one heavy one.

Concealer: Using a concealer brush, small brush, or finger lightly apply powder to spot or area you need extra coverage on. For under eye circles apply powder directly on dark spots then using a concealer brush or your finger tip, tap lightly and blend.

Eye shadow: Brush the shadow over your lids or in the crease of your lids for a contouring effect using either an eye shadow brush or your finger. You can apply them wet or dry. For wet, mix the powders with a touch of water and then apply to your lids for a different look. Some of the colors change slightly when wet, so create more colors and get more use out of the same product!

Lips-
Wet.-mix a few grains with water in lid to creamy texture. Apply with lip brush. Cover with balm or lipstick.
Dry- dip balm or lipstick into color and apply.

Eyeliner: Dip your eyeliner brush into water and then into the powder and swirl on the back of your hand or in a container to create a creamy consistency, and then apply to the eyes. You can also mix water with the minerals first and then dip your brush into the cream.  We suggest using a strait edged smaller brush for this. You can also use minerals dry as liner.

Lip Color: You can apply the powder to your lips first, and then put a gloss on top of that, or you can apply a gloss or lipstick first and then rub the minerals over that. Just dip your gloss brush or tube into the color and apply. We suggest that you don’t dip directly into your jar, but onto a lid or piece of paper for mixing.

Blush: Apply the powders to the cheek using a blush.  A little goes a long way with these minerals so just a few specks of color to start! l. You can apply one coat or more if you desire more color and intensity.

Bronzer: Using the brush of your choice (powder or kabuki is best) dip your brush into the powder, swirl it in the lid, tap to settle the powders, and apply lightly to forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. For a sun-kissed look, use a bronze or warm brown color! You're saving your skin!! You're getting the protection from the harmful rays of the sun with the natural sunscreen, and also creating that lovely, bronzed look we get from being in the sun.

Contour: Using the brush of your choice (a blush or angled blush brush is suggested) apply the minerals in the crease of your eyes, the hollow of your cheeks, under your jaw line, sides of nose, to create a contoured, defined look. Browns and grays and any shade or two darker than your skin tone will create contours and take the focus away from that area.

Highlights: lighter colors will create highlights on your forehead, cheeks, upper eyelids, nose, chest or cleavage, and shoulders. Try lighter colors with sparkle or even just a shade or two lighter in foundation.

Mix your colors together! Make your own shades. Just keep in mind the “no lip:” rule.

Light #1- the palest of the pale.
Light #2-a neutral lightest shade.
Light #3- slightly pink lightest neutral shade

Medium#1- ash(green) base medium to light shade, helps cover redness
Medium#2- neutral medium shade
Medium#3-yellow based medium shade

Dark#2- neutral medium dark shade
Dark#3-slightly pink medium dark shade

Diffusion - It gently absorbs oil and diffuses the appearance of lines and pores like a soft focus camera lens. Use before or after your foundation.

Illusionist - Though it's intended for nightly use to work on lines and wrinkles while you sleep, you may apply Illusionist as a primer before your mineral makeup. It was designed to apply it at night, after cleansing and moisturizing your skin. This product is clear, so if you want a little color, just mix in some of your loose mineral foundation.
